Soap cutters

These soap cutters soap designed and built by me, within the limitations of knowledge and resource an amateur woodworker. They are all constructed with MDF coated, easy material to work with and is found in any joinery. All parts were cut, according to the drawings, a carpentry professional, my friend Marco Mendonca, who always treated me kindly.

The main hardware is the tensioner for cutters wire cutting. Was used in most cutters a pin tuning machine for guitars, which can be found in stores for musical instruments and luthiers. The stainless steel wire is that the cutter itself, it was found in shops for fishing articles in various diameters from 0.30 to 0.50 mm.

Individual cutter

 This cutter is used to cut the small soap bars, allowing adjustment of cutting thickness by means of one adjustable guide. As support used was one tensioner frame supported cap drain, which is resistant to tension the wire for cutting. It is made of cast aluminum. The greatest difficulty is the coupling of this support base by a hinge. I used two screws to secure the bracket to the hinge.

Horizontal cutter

 This is the most versatile cutter is used to cut blocks and bars and also the easiest to do. The base is sliding through the use of a pair of telescopic rails, those used in furniture drawer. The cutting is accomplished by sliding the base against the cutting edge that is horizontal. The cutting height is adjusted by placing a base for supporting the soap any desired height. One drawback is the size of the cutter, which is large and takes up space.

Vertical cutter

 It’s a very specific cutter to cut the block into bars. It has two cutting edges parallel vertical that slicing the block in a width of 90 mm which is the width of the bars. The base is a sliding telescopic rails, which facilitates cutting. The tensioning screw is an Allen screw with a standard internal fixing the wire. The difficulty is to make the screw thread transversely to accommodate the allen screw and also making the through hole in the longitudinal direction of one of the screws of the wire.

Multiply cutter

This cutter is great for a high production. Allows simultaneous cutting of 12 bars of soap in a single operation. In contrast this cutter is a very difficult to do. The system of tensioning cutting wires is through horizontal screws as the template. Are all the cutting wires 16 tensioned which requires a structure resistant to it. MDF wood is not the most suitable material, and has no resistance tends to wear over time. Iron structure would be more appropriate.
